Habit Streak Tracker

One habit. One tap a day. A non-guilt board that doesn't punish you for missing a Tuesday. Missed days stay visible — they don't erase history.

Weekly reflection

Once a week — Sunday evening or Monday morning. Two prompts. No scoring.

What this actually does

Habit research (Lally et al., 2010; Fogg; Wood & Neal) converges on a few boring truths: small beats big, consistent beats intense, and a missed day doesn't undo the work. This tool encodes those — partial days get half credit, broken streaks remain in the grid, and the metric shown longest-side is the most forgiving one.

The weekly reflection is the actual mechanism. The grid is a daily check-in; the reflection is what teaches you to adjust the habit to your actual life instead of fighting your actual life for the habit.

Who it's for

People who want to build one small practice — a morning walk, a daily journal, a 10-minute tidy. Especially useful for people who have tried habit apps and quit because the streak-shame cycle made them worse.

Less useful if you're trying to break a habit (use the Thought Record or seek clinical support).

Limitations

A streak tracker does not, by itself, change behaviour. The change happens in the weekly reflection — in the small adjustments you make each week based on what actually got in the way. If you don't do the reflection, the grid is just decoration.

Tracking is also prone to "what gets measured gets managed" distortion: you'll optimise the count, not the benefit. The reflection is the antidote.

FAQ

What if I miss a day?

The grid records it. Your current streak resets. Your longest streak and total days stay. Nothing is erased. That's the whole point of this design — other trackers treat missed days as failures; this one treats them as data.

What does "light" mean?

A partial day — you did half the habit, or a 5-minute version. Half credit. Use it on travel days, sick days, rough days. It keeps the streak alive and keeps you honest.

Where does my data go?

localStorage on this device only. Use Export to save a .csv copy. Nothing is uploaded.

Can I track more than one habit?

Not in this version — it deliberately holds one. Atomic Habits' argument is that two habits at once usually means zero habits. If you need to track multiple, change the habit name every month instead.

What are the common mistakes when using Habit Streak Tracker? Most common mistakes come down to four habits: entering 20 when the field expects 0.2 because the field is a percentage; leaving a field blank and accepting the default without checking what it stands for; changing one input and reading a result that was calculated before the change; and quoting the output as an exact figure when the page describes it as a reference estimate. Press calculate again after any edit, and treat the number as a reference point rather than a final answer.
